History of Kinloch Irish Setters

Since I was a child, I have wanted to show and breed dogs. I read all the Big Red and Albert Payson Terhune books I could get my hands on and dragged my parents to the only dog show we knew of every summer. My mother always told me once I had my own place I could have all the animals I wanted, but she never thought it would go this far! A year after graduating from college, I moved to a house with room for dogs, got my first show dog (and let’s not leave out the many cats who have graced and still grace my life over the years) and the madness began!

Over the years I have worked with variations of several lines to try to achieve the look I want combined with good health and sound, happy temperaments. None of my original dogs appear in my current pedigrees as I have started over a few times to try to improve what I was producing in one way or another. There have been many great highs and discouraging lows, but my passion for breeding and showing has kept me going, and I am very happy with what I have now, though there is always room for improvement for all of us! I am always on the lookout for the new individual who may have something I need to incorporate, and look forward to attending our National specialties each year both to compete and conduct research.

As Kinloch, I have produced and/or finished almost 50 Champions in limited breeding, with more on their way. The name “Kinloch” (now registered with AKC) comes from my family – it was the name of the family plantation established in the early 1800s in the Middleburg, VA area – and we carry it on with pride.

In 2005 my husband, Mike, and I moved to 38 acres in Lovingston, VA. We love it here in the Blue Ridge, and hope to spend many more years producing and showing our happy, healthy, beautiful Irish setters.
